(notice the name on the bill)

Learning Goal: We are learning about the Canadian symbols and images used on Canadian currency and making some assessments of these choices.

Questions to ask: What are some of the symbols of Canada? How does a simple object become a symbol? How are these symbols connected to my identity as a Canadian? When we think about Canada, we think about…natural physical features, maps, buildings and monuments, food, leisure activities, people, attitudes, and animals…? How do you think images are selected to be put on coins, bills, or stamps?

Design your own $150 bill for the 150th anniversary

Perhaps, you will include a timeline in your design (dates), a historical Canadian person, famous Canadian invention or something completely off the chart…it’s your design (7cm x 15 – front and back)

Remember it’s for Canada – not just Toronto – be prepared to defend your symbolic choices)
